What makes the little holes in clay banks and bare earth? Why do swamps smell funny sometimes? What's that little lizard sitting on a rock?

About the Author & Illustrator: Dave Gunson has contributed, in whole or in part, to well over 200 books and publications over the years - primarily, of course, to those dealing with some aspect of the natural world as their theme. He has also illustrated and/or written many books for younger and older children (some written by me, some by other authors), including The Life And Times Of The Giant Kauri, How The Kiwi Lost Its Wings, Kiwi of The Great Forest, My Kiwi, all published by Reed Publishing.
Other books in recent times include Mr Muggs, The Library Cat (Scholastic), Ducky (Penguin), Grandpa Ngata and the Seagull (New Holland), and a series of New Zealand wildlife books for young readers, under the All About heading, and published by New Holland. These include birds, insects, freshwater wildlife, sea life, the seashore, wildlife of the past, garden wildlife and so on. Some of the entries in these books were then expanded upon and used with new material in the 'motherbook' of the series - The Big Book of New Zealand Wildlife - which gave me the opportunity to include plenty of plant and animal species that couldn't find a home in the earlier books.
