Frequently Asked Questions

How do RV water tanks work?

RV water tanks come in a range of sizes and hold your fresh water (for drinking, washing and general use), grey water (the wastewater from your sinks and shower), and black water (sewerage from your toilet). Motorhomes and campervans can have either portable or permanent tanks. Your fresh water is pumped to your taps using a 12V water pump. For more advice check out our guide on RV water systems. Not sure which tank is right for you? The team at RV Super Centre can help you choose the right size and type, just give us a shout – we’re happy to help!

How do you empty a motorhome grey water tank?

Your campervan or motorhome’s greywater tank should only be emptied in a motorhome dump station. Never dump your grey water in freedom camping areas. You’ll need to use the hose that connects to your tank and run this into the waste hole at the dump station. It’s a good idea to empty your grey water after emptying your blackwater tank (sewerage) as this helps flush out any residue.

How do you clean a motorhome water tank?

It’s important to clean and disinfect all of the water tanks in your campervan or motorhome on a regular basis. Once your tanks are empty and free from debris, use a good quality commercial tank cleaner and follow the directions on the bottle.

Contact your local RV Super Centre for help with choosing a cleaner or advice on how to clean your tanks.
