Q: Can you tell us about your Service Centre Advisor role at RVSC, Albany. What does your job entail?

A: I work in the vehicle servicing centre at RVSC where I organise and book in jobs for the workshop team who work on the vehicle. I’m the link between the clients and the workshop. My background and experience with repairs makes it easier to explain and relay the information from the workshop to the client.

Q: How long have you been in the role?

A: I’ve been here for 18 months. Before this I worked as a truck mechanic.

Q: When you work with recreational vehicles, you need to be something of a Jack of all trades - is that true?

A: Yes. We don’t just work on the engine, we work on everything. That means all repairs, appliances and compliance certificates. Everything that anyone needs to get their motorhome road ready before their trip.

Q: When is the busiest period for you?

A We were exceptionally busy in the lead-up to Christmas. Of course, there is the added pressure of trying to get it all done as fast as possible for everyone, but especially for people who live in their vehicle. It’s their home, after all. So we try to get it done for them and if necessary we’ll rope in all the other service providers just to get it done as quickly as we can.

Q: How does working for RVSC differ from your previous job?

A: It’s very different. The wonderful thing about working in this workshop is the people who come in and chat with you about the trip they are planning or one they have just been on and they offer advice. It’s really nice.

Q: People often say it is a really happy industry because it’s all about getting the most out of your travel.

A: Yes. That’s true. And a funny thing happened last weekend when I was away myself and ran into some clients. It was so amazing to see them away from the workplace and feel as if you have a really good connection.

Q: It sounds like you have the dream job.

A: It’s a really happy place to work, and it’s really close to my home which is just 10 minutes up the road, so it has worked out very well. I love it here.
